Artist, Joseph S. Venus has studied and researched mammals and people of the Pleistocene time period, 10,000 to 15,000 years ago. The Saber-tooth cat was approximately the size of an African Lion except the front limbs were heavy and the hind limbs were light. The tail resembled that of a Lynx. The predator relied on stealth and ambush. The cat's sabers were enourmous recurved teeth used to puncture the thick hide of a captive. The species could roar like a lion. The entire skeleton of the Saber-tooth cat is on display in front of the mural. |
