Artist Joe Venus says that the inspiration for his painting, Buffalo At Nine Mile Canyon, was gleaned from a most unique petroglyph - a pregnant buffalo bearing an unborn calf in the womb. Venus was deeply touched by the obvious sensitivity of the Fremonts toward Nature's wildlife. And thus recreated a scene from a time long vanished...buffalo roaming freely and abundantly in Nine Mile Canyon. Unfortunately, like the Fremont Indians, the buffalo are gone too. Yet they live on through ancient etchings, scribed on the walls of Nine Mile Canyon. |
